Law Matters
Veronica Foley, Solicitor of Hannon Solicitors, North Gate Bridge, Cork, who has over 18 years experience in family law matters will give a brief talk and answer questions on the general effects of the new Civil Partnership Act (or the Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Cohabitants Act 2010 to give its longwinded title) which commenced in law on 1st January 2011. This Act created the new legal set-up for Civil Partnerships and for the Relationship of Cohabitants in Ireland. Civil Partnership being now created by registration, and the Cohabitant Relationship by the passage of time only. This complex Act brings in a complete new approach to how non-marital relationships are now governed by our laws, and bring many changes unforeseen by the law profession and public at large. It is hoped this talk will bring some clarity to the various issues involved
